The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between narcissism, self-esteem, shame-proneness and relational aggression of early adolescents. In addition, the moderating effects of self-esteem and shame-proneness on the relationship of narcissism and relational aggression were explored. The participants were 589 junior high school students (first and second graders) from four schools, including 297 boys and 272 girls. This study used “Self-Esteem Sale”, “Narcissism Scale”, “Shame-Proneness Scale” and “Relational Aggression Questionnaire – Peer Nomination” to collect data from the participants. The findings of this study were as follows: First, early adolescents’ self-esteem negatively predicted their relational aggression. Second, both of the adolescents’ narcissism and shame-proneness could significantly predict their relational aggression. Finally, the results demonstrated that self-esteem as well as shame-proneness did not play the moderating role in the relationship between adolescents’ narcissism and their relational aggression. Based upon the findings, some of the research limitations, educational implications and suggestions for future research were provided.
