本詮釋報告，為百老匯音樂劇《四十二街》兩位女主角佩姬・索婭與桃樂絲・布洛克的分析與探討。
本報告分為七個章節。第一章為研究動機與研究方法；第二章為音樂劇《四十二街》背景探究，藉由了解一九三〇年代的美國文化、百老匯音樂劇文化及踢踏舞的起源與發展，使筆者對故事背景有更全面的認識；第三章為《四十二街》電影及音樂劇的版本史料介紹，包括作詞及作曲者介紹，以及音樂劇版本的導演暨編舞家介紹，再行兩版本之比較；第四章進入音樂劇《四十二街》劇本與演出分析，筆者撰寫劇中角色介紹與劇本大綱，並分析其劇本結構、曲目安排及踢踏舞曲編排；第五章為音樂劇《四十二街》兩位女主角之角色分析，透過劇本的線索，探討佩姬・索婭與桃樂絲・布洛克的角色背景、角色形象及與其他角色的關係；第六章為兩位女主角演唱歌曲〈Young and Healthy〉、〈Shadow Waltz〉、〈Go into Your Dance〉、〈You’re Getting to be a Habit with Me〉、〈I Know Now〉、〈We’re in the Money〉、〈Forty-Second Street〉、〈About a Quarter to Nine〉之歌曲詮釋；第七章為本報告之總結。

This report is a case study of the Broadway musical 42nd Street, with a focus on the analysis and interpretation of the two leading female roles, Peggy Sawyer and Dorothy Brock.
The report contains seven chapters. The author first presents the motivation and research methods in Chapter One, and then explores in Chapter Two the background of the musical by examining the American culture in the 1930s, Broadway musical history, and the origin and development of the tap dance. Chapter Three gives a brief overview of the musical 42nd Street and its film adaptation, introduces the lyricist, composer, director and choreographer, and compares the differences between these two versions. Chapter Four analyzes the script and the show as a whole, with respect to the characters, the story, the music, and the tap dance, while Chapter Five focuses on the analysis of the two leading females, Peggy Sawyer and Dorothy Brock. By investigating the clues in the script, the author observes these characters’ backgrounds, images, and relationships with other characters. The interpretation of songs sung by the two leading actresses is covered in Chapter Six, including “Young and Healthy,” “Shadow Waltz,” “Go into Your Dance,” “You’re Getting to be a Habit with Me,” “I Know Now,” “We’re in the Money,” “Forty-Second Street” and “About a Quarter to Nine”. The last chapter is the conclusion.
