本研究在探討國中學生性別角色刻板印象在不同家庭社會化中的差異情形。
本研究之中心理念為：人們對兩性的刻板印象，實際上隱含相當成份的自我效能信念，而效能信念是社會化過程的產出。由家庭社會化因素來看，在父母的觀念中，隱含著對男女應具有之角色扮演、人生定向、人格特質的不同看法(其實就是心理學上所稱的性別刻板印象)，而表現在對不同性別之子女的差別待遇上，如：家事分工的不同、學業及職業成就高低的期許不同、人格特質的要求不同；加以父母本身角色楷模的因素；而影響不同性別子女自我效能信念的差異，構成子女性別刻板印象的形成因素之一。
因此，本研究欲得知現今父母是否仍對兒女存在有相異的性別對待，以及性別刻板印象是否因家庭社會化因素而有差異。研究工具引用Wilson & Daniel之「性別角色刻板印象量表」，所研究之家庭社會化變項包含：子女家事活動類型；父親家事活動類型；母親教育程度；母親是否就業；子女知覺父母對自己的學業成就、職業成就、與人格特質之期望；及家庭中子女的性別結構八項。本研究以台北地區公立國中二年級學生為研究對象，抽取了台北八個行政區九所學校、台北縣八個縣轄市八所學校、及台北縣三個鄉鎮三所學校為樣本，發出問卷1253份，得有效問卷982份。調查所得資料分別採用次數分配、百分比、平均數、標準差、卡方百分比同質性考驗、t考驗、單因子變異數分析等方法進行分析，所得結果如下：
一、男學生之性別刻板印象明顯地較女學生強烈。
二、家庭社會化情形，除子女知覺父母對自己的人格特質期望沒有性別差異之外，其餘均因性別而有顯著差異：
(一)參與男性家事、中性家事的人數，男學生大於女學生。
(二)知覺父母對自己的學歷期望在國中、高中(職)及碩士、博士者，男學生人數大於女學生；知覺父母對自己的學歷期望在專科或大學者，女學生人數大於男學生。
(三)知覺父母對自己的職業期望屬第一類(最底層階級)、第三類、第五類者，男學生的人數大於女學生；知覺父母對自己的職業期望屬第四類者，女學生的人數大於男學生。
三、子女家事活動類型、母親的教育程度、知覺父母對自己的學歷期望不同之國二學生，其性別刻板印象有顯著差異：
(一)參與中性及女性家事之國二男學生，其性別角色觀點較參與男性家事之國二男學生平等。
(二)母親教育程度為專科、大學之國二男學生，其性別角色觀點較母親教育程度為高中(職)之國二男學生平等。
(三)知覺父母對自己的學歷期望為專科、大學之國二男學生，其性別角色觀點較知覺父母對自己的學歷期望為國中、高中(職)之國二男學生平等；知覺父母對自己的學歷期望為碩士、博士之國二女學生，其性別角色觀點較知覺父母對自己的學歷期望為國中、高中(職)之國二女學生平等。
四、父親家事活動類型、母親是否就業、子女知覺父母對自己的職業期望、與人格特質期望、及家庭中子女的性別結構不同之男女學生，其性別角色刻板印象沒有顯著差異。

針對研究結果，本研究提出以下幾點建議：
一、對家庭社會化情境的建議
(一)對家務的分工，不再抱持性別分化的作法
(二)對子女的學歷期待，不再存有輕重不等的看法
(三)對自己的學歷發展，女性應勇於追求，不受性別限制
二、對未來研究的建議
(一)編製性別角色刻板印象表量表，以應研究之需
(二)活潑家庭社會化變項的設計，以利父母之家庭生活檢視
(三)擴大社會化層面之探討，以補本研究之不足
