班傑明‧布瑞頓 (Edward Benjamin Britten, 1913-1976)被公認為二十世紀最重要的英國作曲家，其最重要的貢獻就是透過歌劇代表作《彼得葛萊姆》(Peter Grime, 1945)將睽違二百五十年的純正英式歌劇，重現在世人面前。布瑞頓為男高音獨唱、法國號獨奏，以及弦樂團所創作的聯篇歌曲作品《小夜曲》(Serenade, 1943)是當時罕見以弦樂團伴奏的英語聯篇歌曲作品，為之後《彼得葛萊姆》的英語配譜創作奠定了基礎。
由於布瑞頓對人聲樂器情有獨鍾，且對於語言與文學有極高的造詣與敏銳度，本文將深入探討《小夜曲》中的六首英格蘭經典詩作與布瑞頓對英語詩詞的獨特配譜手法，並將剖析八個樂章中的曲式結構，為此作品提出最適當的演唱詮釋。
