The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the participation rate and health status (behavioral health risks, use of health insurance and ill absenteeism) of employees in the worksite fitness program. Subjects of this study were 229 employees who had worked for more than one year in Company A in Hsingchu Science-Based Industrial Park in January 2003. Data were collected with intranet survey and company internal reports. Description statistics, one-way ANOVA, ANCOVA and Pearson’s product-moment correlation were utilized for data analysis.
The findings of this study were listed as follow:
    1. Organizational factors had more influence to the participation rate of worksite fitness program than demographic factors did.
    2. In the worksite fitness program, employees with the participation rate of once a week or more had fewer behavioral health risks and use of health insurance. But, there was no significant difference in ill absenteeism between the employees with different participation levels.
    3. There was no significant correlation between behavioral health risks and use of health insurance, between behavioral health risks and ill absenteeism, either.
    4. Worksite fitness program did help employees have regular exercise, and employees with regular exercise had fewer ill absenteeism.
Finally, if the government would encourage the employers to implement worksite fitness programs and to increase the participation rates of the employees by legislation, employees would be healthier and also benefit the employers and the country.
