The aim of this study was to test a proposed model predicting adolescents’ drug use from family interrelation, perceived parental knowledge also peer influences in Taiwan. The participants were 816 adolescents at 16-20 years. The goodness-of-fit indices RMSEA=.07、CFI=.98 and TLI=.98 are all fitted.
The results show that parental knowledge, deviant peer group both have direct effect on drug use, but youths attached to deviant peer group has greater influence. It mediates the effect of parental knowledge on drug use. The study found family interrelation was positively correlated with parental knowledge, both of two variables was also negatively correlated with deviant peers. One unexpected finding appeal in present study, the family interrelation has positive significant direct effect on drug use. The result suggests more research on the factors between family interrelation and adolescent drug use in late adolescence.
