This master's thesis explores the importance of using the local language (Taigi) to enhance team collaboration and communication efficiency in Taiwan's construction industry. The research was motivated by the observation that the majority of workers on construction sites are older locals who primarily use Taigi, and effective communication is key to ensuring the quality and schedule of construction projects.
The aim of the research is to demonstrate whether using the workers' native language (Taigi) in a multilingual work environment can improve work efficiency, reduce misunderstandings, and enhance collaboration and a sense of belonging among teams. This was investigated through in-depth interviews with middle managers in the construction industry to understand how they use Taigi in their daily management practices and the specific impact of this language use on work processes.
The research design included a qualitative analysis method, conducting interviews with five middle managers from different construction companies, who have extensive onsite management experience and a strong background in using the local language.
