    • 人類的語言能夠以有限的形式來創造多樣的語義，表達無窮的意義，實在是神奇且奧妙。本文試圖以認知語法，藉由研究現代漢語多義詞「開」為例，探究單一的語言形式造成多義的緣故。具體採用的理論架構主要是Lakoff(1987)的理想認知模式。
    本文認為「開」的多義肇因於動詞所指涉的行為動作、狀態改變的歷程之中各種語義成分的抽離。自典型場境中分析出四個概念成分，並且基於語義衍伸從具體到抽象、由空間>過程>狀態的普遍原則(universal principle)，推論「開」的語義系統最基本的概念核心是[除阻] (release/spread)，而後是[操控(manipulate)]、[啟始(inchoative)]與[分離(apart)]。各個概念成分再各自以命題、隱喻、轉喻、意象圖式等認知模式發展出更多不同的語義，進而形成一個輻射狀的語義網絡。
    在語義延伸的過程中也和其他漢語的趨向動詞一樣，朝相同的方向進行著語法化過程，到表達「時相」語義與「起來」、「下來」、「下去」、產生語義相近但功能不重疊的現象，且由於「開」的動力意象較強，限制了其語法化進程，使得在搭配上也不若其他三者自由活潑，亦即趨向動詞語法化的程度是不相等的，有的如「起來」走的比較遠，有的如「開」尚在近端。
