In a highly interconnected social environment, conflicts are difficult to avoid. Social conflict refers to the consequences that arise when individuals or groups have different expectations and perspectives on matters, including behavioral disputes, competition, or psychological tension. Social conflict can have diverse effects on societal development and individual mental and physical health. This study examines three interconnected issues from the perspective of social conflict: first, the current status and changes in social conflicts experienced by the people in Taiwan on different issues; second, the exploration of the impact of social conflict on life adaptation and its underlying mechanisms; third, the examination of whether individual states moderate the influence of perceived conflict intensity on life adaptation. Using data analysis from the 2009 & 2019 Taiwan Social Change Survey: Social Inequality, the results indicate that, overall, Taiwanese people perceived more social conflicts in 2019 than in 2009. The intensity of perceived social conflicts varies across different issues and is influenced by demographic variables such as gender, age, education, social class, and income. Those who perceive higher social conflict intensity tend to have lower social trust, leading to poorer life adaptation, and this relationship is moderated by individual states.
