本論文以《聰明記憶王》一書為研究對象,從英漢對比角度探討記憶術書籍之翻譯障礙與因應對策。《聰明記憶王》的特點為利用英語之語音、拼法等特性來記住所要記住的信息內容,作者目的在於教導讀者學會書中各式記憶術技巧,進而利用這些技巧記住他們想要記住的材料內容,因此語言形式和信息內容同樣重要。譯者身為譯文讀者和原文作者之間的媒介與橋樑,所面對的課題就是該如何跨越英漢語言文化差異,幫助中文讀者取得和英文讀者一樣的閱讀效果,亦即學會書中教導的記憶術技巧。本論文共分五章,第一章緒論說明研究背景、研究動機與目的,論文架構;第二章為原著介紹,簡介作者、原著內容、原著書評與特點分析;第三章為研究方法,說明本論文從英漢對比角度評析譯文;第四章譯文評析,逐一討論每一種記憶術的翻譯策略、原因與可改進之處;第五章為問題討論與建議。
The thesis analyzes the obstacles encountered in translating mnemonics books of applied psychology as well as the suggested countermeasures. The object of study is the Chinese translation of “Your Memory: How It Works & How to Improve It.” Since the author uses lots of examples to teach readers mnemonics skills, the important role of the translator is to help Chinese readers pick up similar skills as English readers do after reading the translated book. As the medium and bridge between the author and readers of the translated work, the translator must try his/her best to overcome translation obstacles. This thesis is comprised of five chapters. The first chapter includes research background, research motive and purpose, and the structure of thesis. The second chapter introduces the author, original work, book reviews and the characteristics of this book. The third chapter is research method.. The fourth chapter analyzes the translated work, and examines whether readers of the translated work can gain similar effects as readers of the original work do. The fifth chapter is discussion and suggestion.
