本論文藉由透過旋律、節奏、和聲、聲響效果與彈奏法之研究，瞭解布拉姆斯《韓德爾主題變奏曲與賦格》之結構與音樂特質。進而深入地分析、探討與研究此曲之詮釋及與其他相關變奏曲之比較。
本論文共分為五章，第一章－緒論，包括研究動機、目的、方法與範圍，以及使用之版本與譜例介紹；第二章－布拉姆斯鋼琴變奏曲概論，簡介布拉姆斯的鋼琴作品、布拉姆斯變奏曲之創作理念及布拉姆斯的鋼琴變奏曲；第三章－《韓德爾主題變奏曲與賦格》概論，介紹此曲之創作背景並分析此曲主題之來源-韓德爾《曲調與變奏》；第四章－《韓德爾主題變奏曲與賦格》之分析與詮釋，以樂曲分析及樂曲詮釋為方向，研究此曲各變奏在旋律、節奏、和聲及聲響效果上之運用，提出筆者個人之詮釋要點，並與其他相關變奏曲相互比較。第五章－結論，統整此曲各變奏在拍號、調性、建議速度、觸鍵、風格個性、樂曲架構、寫作手法、力度、踏板使用上之各項特色。
