本文旨在探討二戰後美國女性作曲家莉比．拉森(Libby Larsen)的兩組作品《國王殿下，審判我吧！》(Try me, good king)與《母女書箋》(Songs from letters)。
《國王殿下，審判我吧！》包含五首歌曲，選材自亨利八世五位王后的書信，內容以懇求、控訴的口吻來訴說自己悲劇的人生；五曲分別為〈阿拉貢的凱薩琳〉(Katherine of Aragon)、〈安妮．博林〉(Anne Boleyn)、〈簡．西摩爾〉(Jane Seymour)、〈克里維斯的安妮〉(Anne of Cleves)、〈凱薩琳．霍華德〉(Katherine Howard)。《母女書箋》亦包含五首作品，取材於美國西部傳奇人物克萊曼蒂．珍(Calamity Jane)致女兒的書信，內容流露對女兒的思念與對丈夫的回憶；〈就像你的父親〉(So Like Your Father’s)、〈他從不失手〉(He Never Misses)、〈一個男人可以愛上兩個女人〉(A Man Can Love Two Women)、〈一位工作的女人〉(A Working Woman)、〈我所擁有〉(All I Have)。
在內容選材上，兩組作品皆以書信為歌詞，且書信者皆為女性，可看出作曲家對女性內心刻劃的情有獨鍾。在創作手法上，使用多變的節奏以表達激動的情緒和戲劇化的場景，語氣的轉折皆清楚地標示於樂譜，並利用特定的主題動機貫穿整組作品。不管是在音樂的處理或者是歌詞的選用上，展現了拉森細膩的心思與高度的音樂創作技巧。
