The purpose of this study was to understand the experience of taxi drivers when working at occupational stress. Twenty participants were purposively selected and in-depth interviews were conducted. The interviews were audio-recorded and later transcribed. Data analysis used a phenomenological approach which focused on the meaning that participants made of the occupation. Themes were emerged from the process of weaving significant transcript and excerpts from the interview together. Seven themes relative to occupational stress and two themes relative to coping emerged from the data. Those nine themes were categorized into three: “effects”, “stressors” and “coping” of occupational stress.
We found the specificity in the process of occupational stress the participants experience by using qualitative method. The author suggests that the physical, mental, and social health of the participants were affected by the specificity of their occupation. The results will contribute to tailor a design of taxi driver’s worksite health promotion program and future research.
