Because of the great advance of Internet and the arising consciousness of public health, Internet has become one of the efficient ways for obtaining health information along with a comprehensive reading. Distinguishing the credibility on receiving health information is therefore of great importance. The main objective of this research is to discuss different opinions based on experts’ viewpoints and the researcher interview thirteen attending physicians who work at various faculties.
The experimental observation, survey and interview contribute to a better understanding of physicians’ demand and evaluation on Internet health information. In addition, a further discussion on the influence between Internet and physician-patient relationship is addressed. Particularly, this research also gives a wild survey to investigate what the physicians’ rules and clues toward the credibility of Internet health information are.
The main results are as following. First, the questions of the clinical diagnoses and therapies are physicians’ primary demand of Internet health information, and they usually ask peers and experts to verify the information. Second, because of the uneven quality of the Internet health information, most of the interviewees suggest that the information should be monitored by the government highest health department. Third, the origin of the Internet information is the main key for physicians to identify the quality. Fourth, Internet creates a new kind of patient who considers that the Internet health information is the secondary medium except physicians. Fifth, the health literacy of patient is the main physician-patient relationship indicator. The more correct health knowledge the patient has, the more trust the physician and patient have. Sixth, the level of the expert source, the including scope and the stability of the healthy information websites affect physicians to judge the credibility of websites. Eventually, the level of the expert source for physicians is the most important judgment on the credibility of health information. The physicians often depend on their own experience when they diagnose. During diagnosing, there are many kinds of resources applied, the internet information, the content and the physicians themselves affect each other continually.
