外來種植物經由人類活動影響傳播至各非原生地區,部分物種可藉由擾動所釋放之空間建立族群。台灣福山植物園之中,山豬於草地挖掘及翻攪土壤以尋找食物之行為造成土壤裸露,為植物園區常見的擾動。紫花藿香薊原產於熱帶美洲,已於台灣歸化多年,野外觀察顯示福山植物園區內,山豬挖掘過之地區紫花藿香薊覆蓋面積比率有較高的現象。然而,紫花藿香薊的大量存在勢必與原生物種競爭生存空間與營養物質,該競爭將對園區內原生物種之生存造成不利影響,若要對外來種紫花藿香薊加以控制,以降低對原生植物的衝擊,需對其成為優勢植物的原因有深入的了解,因此本研究探討以下兩個問題:1)山豬對土壤的挖掘擾動,是否促進紫花藿香薊成為優勢種? 2)若擾動過後確實促進紫花藿香薊成為優勢物種,相較於其本地原生物種,其競爭優勢為何?
於福山植物園以人為翻土之方式模擬山豬擾動並追蹤翻土與否及周遭是否存在紫花藿香薊族群對植被物種組成之影響,亦調查土壤種子庫及種子數並以溫室實驗比較紫花藿香薊及此處最優勢原生草本植物之萌芽與生長速率。研究結果顯示紫花藿香薊族群外緣在模擬山豬擾動後,紫花藿香薊周遭需待另一原生植物柔枝莠竹繁殖完畢死亡後,方可成為此棲地之優勢植物,而未擾動之紫花藿香薊族群則有向其周界擴散的趨勢,而原本無紫花藿香薊的地點無論是否受到擾動紫花藿香薊均未擴散至此。夏天的擾動可能會促進紫花藿香薊的入侵,而紫花藿香薊產生之種子及土壤種子庫顯著高於牛筋草,且其夏天萌芽速率顯著高於冬天。紫花藿香薊營養繁殖體存活率低於牛筋草,此進一步顯示紫花藿香薊營養繁殖體對擾動區域回復的貢獻較小,因此其在研究區的優勢主要來自種子的萌芽。綜合本研究結果推論冬天發生於福山植物園區內的山豬擾動可能不會直接促進紫花藿香薊的擴散,而需等到柔枝莠竹開花死亡後才能取得優勢,而夏天的擾動則可能使紫花藿香薊透過其大量的種子數快速萌發而佔據擾動後的棲地;在沒有擾動的情況下,紫花藿香薊應仍然可逐步佔據此棲地。
