The problem of pet abandonment has always been an important research topic in pet research, but few studies have been explored this issue from the perspective of pet owners and/or feeders. In recent years, the trend of keeping pets has become prevalent in Taiwan. The types of pets range from common species (cats and dogs, etc) to relatively rare species (reptiles and insects, etc). In this situation, the attitude of pet owners/feeders may be different from the past.
This research is to investigate the sampling of pet insect owners and/or feeders in Taiwan. This thesis has been conveyed by survey approach, and tried to understand the performance of pet owners/feeders in their cognition of some risks of pet abandonment, their caring behavior, as well as pet attachment. Psychological correlates of attitudes have been validated from all hypotheses detected from a tripartite model.
The research results represented that differences in background variables such as gender, age, education level, and the experience of keeping insects could be reflected in some attitudes of pet attachment, cognitive risks of pet abandonment, or pet caring behavior. The final detection represented that the higher the pet attachment, the higher the pet could not be released if their abandonment risk is high from insect feeders. Therefore, I detected that if the higher the risk perception to abandoning pet might lead a higher pet caring behaviors. In addition, if a higher risk perception of pet abandonment has been detected, the higher trend of pet caring behaviors could be found. Research has also shown that insect owners/feeders have higher performance in pet attachment, risk perception of pet abandonment, as well as their pet caring behavior, who might represent psychological correlates of positive attitudes in aforementationed factors in Taiwan. I may hope to establish a theortical basis pro-environmental friendly for an effective management of insect feeders.
