本研究的目的在於瞭解探討女性的性別意識發展歷程、分析女性的母職實踐歷程及歸納女性性別意識發展與母職實踐歷程之交互影響,以及探討相關之社會脈絡。
研究者透過一年半在社區女性主義研究社團中參與觀察為起點,以形成對於性別意識發展及母職實踐的先前理解,在資料收集部分則邀請兩位社經地位背景不同的具有性別意識開展經驗的女性進行深度訪談,再以敘說分析中的整體-內容分析方法進行探究,將研究參與者的生命事件與其呈現之性別意識發展及母職實踐歷程的重要主題依時間順序加以重組整合,以理解性別意識及母職實踐歷程的發展脈絡,並以發展圖呈現其核心主題,並探討兩者之間的互動牽連及社會脈絡下的影響因素。
研究發現:
一、研究參與者A的性別意識發展核心主題為「被動接受/主動形塑」,母職實踐歷程核心主題則為「親密/獨立」,從原先只注意他人的需求與肯定,逐漸邁向尋求自我肯定並覺察自我需求。性別意識發展與母職實踐歷程的關連則為1.母職困境啟動性別意識的發展2.性別意識發展使現代母職的實踐變得可能。
二、研究參與者B的性別意識發展核心主題為「女性認同的失落、追尋與悅納」,母職實踐核心主題則為「假自主/真自主」,從接受父權思想中的男優女劣觀點到對自我及女兒的女性特質的肯定與接納。性別意識發展與母職實踐歷程的交互作用包括1.母職經驗對於B的性別意識發展有啟發性的影響。2.女性性別意識實踐在教育觀念。
三、比較A與B的性別意識發展與母職實踐歷程
(一)A與B的相似性
1.性別意識發展促進對於自我女性性別的認同及悅納、啟發因子皆為與女兒的衝突,並因參與女性團體中的姊妹情誼深化性別意識的覺察。
2.母職實踐歷程中。母職觀念均受到母親的影響、均曾女兒發生具重要意義且導向自我改變的衝突、分離的議題均具有相當的重要性。
3.受到共同社會脈絡的影響,包括傳統性別觀、傳宗接代觀念
(二)A與B的相異性
1.性別意識發展歷程中,A從原先重視他人肯定及他人需要,到對於自我需要的覺察及自我肯定。B則由原先只看到自己,到後來能看到別人。
2.母職實踐歷程中,A從全然犧牲奉獻的母親,到能夠悅納自己也允許孩子獨立;B則是從強調自己的自主需求,到能夠看見孩子的需要,增加自己的彈性。
最後並提出對心理諮商實務工作者的建議、對家庭教育及學校教育的建議、對女性性別意識發展課程或女性意識提升成長團體的建議及對相關研究的建議,以及研究者的反思。
The purposes of this study were to understand: (1)the process of gender consciousness development of women; (2)the motherhood practice of women; (3)the process that gender consciousness and motherhood practice influence to each other; and (4)the social context concerning the development of gender-consciousness and motherhood practice.
The researcher observed and participated in a local feminist study group for one and a half year so as to get a pre-understanding of women’s gender consciousness development and their motherhood practice. In-depth interviews were conducted to collect the narratives of gender consciousness development and motherhood practice of two women who belong to different social and economic status. Then holistic content analysis was adopted to analyze the narratives. The findings were as follows:
1. The core theme of gender-consciousness development of interviewee A is “passive-acceptance/active shaping”. The core theme of motherhood practice of A is “intimate/independence”. The difficulties of motherhood practice initiates the development of gender-consciousness and the development of gender-consciousness benefits modern motherhood practice.
2. The core theme of gender-consciousness development for interviewee B was “loss, searching for, and acceptance of female identity”.The core theme of motherhood practice of B is ‘false-autonomy/true autonomy’. The motherhood practice of B facilitated her gender-consciousness. The development of her gender-consciousness influenced her ideas about gender education toward her daughter.
3. The comparison of A and B
(1) The similarities between A and B
A. Both interviewees reported that the development of gender-consciousness was initiated by the conflicts between them and their daughters. Sisterhood between them and other women promoted their awareness of women’s position. Their development of gender-consciousness facilitated the acceptance and appreciation of female identity.
B. Both interviewees’ concepts of motherhood were largely affected by their mothers. They used to suffer from the conflicts with their daughters, which also led to impressive and meaningful ideas of recreating their motherhood. Separation-attachment issue was important for both.
C. The gender-consciousness and motherhood practice of both were affected by similar social context such as traditional gender norms and the mission of generation.
(2)The differences between A and B
A. In the process of gender-consciousness development, A learned about how to take care of herself and B learned how to take care of others.
B. In the motherhood practice, A learned to see her own needs, and B learned how to listen to her children.
Suggestions for counseling practice, family and school education, gender-consciousness raising courses, and future studies were provided. The author also provided self-reflections in the last chapter.
