This study aimed to explore the effects of a multi-modal martial arts exercise program and traditional martial arts program on hot executive functions. Additionally, the study aimed to measure event related potential N2 amplitude, mindfulness disposition, and multi-components physical fitness to examine potential additional benefits. Forty-eight college students were recruited and assigned to either the experimental group (multi-modal exercise program) or the comparison group (traditional martial arts program) for a 12-week intervention. Compared to the traditional martial arts program, the Multi-Modal Exercise program included elements of social interaction, multi-components physical fitness training, and mindfulness practice. The results revealed improvements in hot executive function for both groups. Regarding N2 amplitude, the pre-test showed the highest amplitudes in the neutral condition among the three conditions, with a decrease observed in the neutral condition at the post-test compared to the pre-test. In terms of mindfulness disposition, the experimental group showed increases after intervention. Both groups showed improvements in upper limb strength, core strength, and balance in multi-components physical fitness at the post test. In conclusion, this study found positive effects on hot executive functions, mindfulness disposition, and multi-components physical fitness regardless of whether participants engaged in martial arts or a multi-modal martial arts exercise program.
