Introduction: This research aims to explore the cross-cultural adaptation and strategies of domestic student basketball players to the United States, as well as the impact of social support on cross-cultural adaptation. Methods: This study adopted the sampling method of purposive sampling and, according to the different aspects and influencing factors of going to the United States, 12 people were selected as the study participants. The data analysis was carried out by the method of consensual qualitative research. Results: 1. The main difficulty faced for general adaptation is language, especially interpersonal communication and interaction. Additionally, the interactive adaptation has made an important discovery, which is, the host family has an important influence on the adaptation process of student basketball players in the United States. Also, the language barrier is considered as the biggest challenge to academic adaptation, followed by the impact of conflicts between academics and sports. Finally, in terms of athletic adaptation, maintaining a balance between academics and sports is the biggest challenge for student basketball players in the United States; 2. When facing the pressure of cross-cultural adaptation, student basketball players in the United States mainly adopt a problem-oriented copying strategy, which may also get the attention of others and then get social support provided by others; 3. This study verified that different adaptation problems have different sources and types of adaptation, especially that those who are usually close to the players provide more support resources and services. Next, this study found that social support may not have any supporting effect on the interactive adaptation of student basketball players in the United States. However, when facing general adaptation problems, they tend to rely more on the social support provided by teammates and classmates. Conclusion: Based on the above, government units should help improve the current situation of domestic grassroots sports education, cultivate the diverse abilities of student basketball players, build a domestic social support system, provide diverse resources and assistance, and enhance the smooth development of the overseas education process for student basketball players. In addition, for future research, it is recommended that different research variables, different levels, and different sports can be added, using cross-sectional research and mixed research methods to increase the value of theoretical development and practical application.
