This study explores the impact of caregivers' background variables (gender, education, age, and occupation) on their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding early childhood caries (ECC) prevention in Taipei’s Zhongshan District. It also examines the relationships among these factors and their predictive power on ECC prevention behaviors.
A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed, with 380 valid responses analyzed using statistical methods. Results showed that caregivers had good knowledge and positive attitudes, with gender and education showing significant differences. Knowledge correlated positively with attitudes, and attitudes with behaviors. Background, knowledge, and attitudes predicted behaviors, explaining 14% of the variance, with attitudes being the strongest predictor. Older, male caregivers with positive attitudes exhibited better ECC prevention behaviors.
