一九六○年代初期，法國社會面臨消費文化、物質文明的巨大影響，興起了一個前衛的藝術運動新寫實主義。其中重要的藝術家亞赫曼經歷二次大戰，他的作品跨越從工業社會到後工業時代，也橫跨了巴黎與紐約這兩個文化重鎮，更歷經了從現代主義的尾聲進入到後現代主義，幾乎涵蓋了整部當代藝術發展史的脈絡，也見證了當代消費社會發展的過程。
亞赫曼一九九五年的作品《超雕塑系列》，在風格上延伸了他六○年代以後以現成物品集積、切割的創作方法，作為對抽像表現風格繪畫的反動；也反映了消費社會與工業文明的過程；並受到八○年代復古思潮影響加入了希臘羅馬神話雕像，新舊元素在亞赫曼的作品中並存，作品具有深刻的社會文化意涵。
在亞赫曼《超雕塑》系列的後現代性可以從四個方面得到印證：首先，亞赫曼以現成物、古代雕像作為文本，自由地在古今的美術史大寶庫中擷取既有的藝術史內容，以懷舊復古的方式，打破時間的深度感，提供了新的藝術觀賞模式；第二，亞赫曼大量運用古代雕像與日常物品為文本，使其中的物品與神話產生不同意涵的新指涉，創造新的文本；第三，他觀察到城市在脫離工業化發展為消費中心的過程中，凝聚了各種商品拜物的消費社會景象、混合的符碼，從而導致了後現代生活方式的轉變，《超雕塑》系列融合高雅精緻文化與大眾工具機械，使高雅文化與低俗文化融合為一體，打破生活與藝術的界限。第四，亞赫曼《超雕塑》呈現了優雅與詼諧，神聖與低俗，崇高與幽默的對立並存，以詼仿的方式反映當代社會現實生活，在詼仿中不僅有著喜劇性、幽默的元素，也有批判性，因此「詼仿」與「雙重編碼」，是亞赫曼《超雕塑》系列中重要的後現代性之特質。
