  • The author tried to illustrate the process of volunteer recruitment and training in World Vision Taiwan and World Vision United States.
    World Vision Taiwan has designed its own volunteer training based on the organizational needs, personal needs (volunteers), and tasks needs. Also, it selected the classroom method and on-the-job training method to deliver their trainings for their volunteers. At the end of the training, it conducts questionnaires after trainings in order to improve their training. As for recruitment, the head-quarter of World Vision Taiwan recruits all the volunteers for all branches around Taiwan. The process starts from filling out the online application, interviewing, assigning volunteers to different areas/branches, attending orientations, and then volunteering for their assigned tasks. In the other hands, World Vision United States recruits volunteers separately by each branch around the United States. Each branch has different types of programs and activities that caused the different needs for volunteers. The process separated into different ways while recruiting volunteers for each program.
    After the discussion of two organizations, the author illustrated the differences of the two. As for training program and process, both World Vision Taiwan and United States developed their own training program and establish their own process. World Vision United States developed more programs than World Vision Taiwan that make World Vision United States has more complicated training and recruitment program and process. World Vision United States contained more programs compared with Taiwan. The programs are different from World Vision Taiwan to World Vision United States; therefore, the author couldn’t conclude which country (Taiwan and United States) developed and implemented better training programs. Nevertheless, the author can still conclude that for each program in World Vision Taiwan and World Vision United States develop the training all based on each program’s needs. Also, the author noticed that World Vision Taiwan provided individual volunteers training much more completed compared with World Vision United States. Based on this point and finding, World Vision Taiwan does a better job on the training for individual volunteers than World Vision United States. Another difference is that religious is a required qualification for becoming an individual volunteer in World Vision United States; however, religious is NOT a required qualification for becoming an individual volunteer in World Vision Taiwan. As for recruitment, both World Vision Taiwan and World Vision United States post the volunteering opportunities on their websites. Also, both of them use online application for starting the process of recruitment. In the selection process, interview and background check methods are both adopted. World Vision United States recruits their volunteers separately by each branch; however, in World Vision Taiwan, its head-quarter office recruits all volunteers for other branches around Taiwan. Second point that differs from each other is that about the religion. Another difference between World Vision Taiwan and World Vision is about the recruitment for the individual volunteers.
    To sum up, each of them developed their own way to train and recruit volunteers based on their internal and external needs and environment. There are some suggestion that can provide for World Vision Taiwan, World Vision United States and other non-profit organizations.
