全球化的趨勢對電玩產業影響深遠,促使遊戲開發商將目光轉向海外市場,進一步推動了電玩在地化產業的快速成長。近年來,電玩在地化的研究逐漸於學界崛起,成為了翻譯研究中的新興領域,其中創譯在電玩在地化中扮演著不可或缺的角色。
由 CD Projekt 所製作的動作角色扮演遊戲《電馭叛客 2077》因其高品質而道地的繁體中文譯文廣受台灣玩家歡迎。本論文以《電馭叛客 2077》作為研究文本,聚焦於探討其繁體中文在地化過程中的創譯策略,列舉出遊戲中出色之譯例,將之分為文化詞、熟語與粗話、幽默三種類別,分別進行創譯策略的分析。此研究根據吳婧寧提出的七種翻譯策略針對文化詞及熟語與粗話的譯例進行討論,而幽默譯例則是參照朱育萱的幽默類型及幽默翻譯策略進行分類與分析。
研究結果顯示,《電馭叛客 2077》的譯者在創譯時展現了高度的靈活性,並未拘泥於單一的翻譯技巧。譯者在文化詞、粗話與熟語以及幽默創譯上綜合運用了多元策略,並透過對原文文本與遊戲世界文化背景的深度理解,根據原文文本的目標效果及特點,產出了具有本土特色的譯文,為繁體中文玩家精心打造了特殊的文字體驗。
Globalization is a driving force in the video game industry, motivating game developers to direct their focus on international markets. This shift has fueled the rapid expansion of the video game localization sector. In recent years, the field of translation studies has seen a rise in research on video game localization, with transcreation playing a pivotal role in this emerging area of research.
The action RPG Cyberpunk 2077, developed by CD Projekt, has garnered widespread acclaim among Taiwanese players for its high-quality and localized Traditional Chinese translation. This thesis delves into Cyberpunk 2077 as a case study to explore the transcreation strategies employed throughout its localization process into Traditional Chinese. The analysis categorizes exemplary translation examples into three distinct groups: cultural-bound terms, idioms and profanity, and humor, each analyzed for their transcreation strategies. The translations of cultural-bound terms, idioms, and profanity, are discussed in the context of the seven translation strategies articulated by Wu Jing-ning, while humor translations are classified and analyzed based on Jhu Yu-syuan's humor categorization and translation strategies.
The findings indicate that the translators of Cyberpunk 2077 demonstrated remarkable flexibility in their transcreation practices, as they did not limit their approach to a single strategy. The translators effectively employed a diverse range of strategies across cultural-bound terms, idioms and profanity, and humor. Through a profound understanding of the original text and the cultural background of the game world, they crafted localized translations that faithfully captured the nuances and characteristics of the source material, yielding a unique linguistic experience for Traditional Chinese players.
