The main purpose of the present study was to explore the relationships among attachment, actual-perception consistency and marital commitment of heterosexual married and engaged couples. A total of 1059 completed self-reported questionnaires were collected through purposive sampling and accidental sampling. Data was analyzed by Independent-Sample t test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson product-term correlation, and stepwise regression analysis. The major findings of the present study were as follows: 1.Men were higher level of attachment avoidance and marital commitment than women. Engaged subjects reported higher attachment avoidance and lower attachment anxiety than married couple. Furthermore, the marital commitment was statistically different from the length of dating or married.2. Attachment avoidance was negatively associated with“the commitment to spouse”and “feeling of entrapment”. Attachment anxiety was positively associated with the general commitment of marriage and “feeling of entrapment”. Besides, the direct measure of actual-perception consistency was positively associated with general commitment of marriage and“the commitment of spouse”, while the indirect measure of actual-perception consistency was not.3.Participant’s gender, attachment avoidance, anxiety and the direct measure of actual-perception consistency significantly predicted the marital commitment dependent variables. Gender and attachment anxiety did positively predict almost every marital commitment dependent variables, direct measure of actual-perception consistency was the best predictor to “the commitment of spouse”. Moreover, attachment avoidance negatively predicted“the commitment of spouse”and failed to predict other marital commitment dependent variables.
According to the findings, suggestions for future researches and practical works are addressed.
