鱗蓋蕨屬是現今蕨類植物中分類最困難的屬之一，其困難的原因與物種分布過廣、變異過大、雜交頻繁、植物體不同發育階段其形態特徵不一致、無性生殖、多倍體與無融生殖等生物因素有關，另外，也與標本採集不完整、野外觀察記錄不足及學者在沒有廣泛與詳細比對的情況下發表不必要的新學名等人為因素有關。在整理相關文獻後，我們總共獲得252個曾組合在鱗蓋蕨屬屬名之下的種或種下分類群學名，扣除未正當發表、不合法與錯置於本屬的學名後，仍有170個學名，這些學名的正確處理有待模式與一般標本的比對與整理。在研究過歐洲、美國與亞洲各大標本館所存藏的12,000份以上鱗蓋蕨屬標本，以及90%學名的模式標本後，我們將這些歷來由蕨類學者所發表的鱗蓋蕨屬種或種下分類群學名，大幅合併成29種，另外，我們在標本館的標本中至少也發現4個未發表的新種，分別是雷氏鱗蓋蕨、阿氏鱗蓋蕨、柯爾氏鱗蓋蕨與泰國鱗蓋蕨等，全屬合計共33種。除進行鱗蓋蕨屬的分類處理外，本研究也針對鱗蓋蕨屬的分類歷史、形態特徵與植物地理等方面進行討論。

Microlepia is one of the most difficult genera in pteridophytes in terms of taxonomy. The taxonomic difficulty of the genus is caused by: wide species distribution range, large variation in species, high frequency of polyploid and hybridization, inconsistency of morphological characteristics in different developmental stages, incompleteness of specimens, and lacking field observations and incautious publication of new names. In the compilation of relevant literatures, 252 species and infraspecies names were found under the genus Microlepia. After omitting the invalid, illegitimate, or wrongly combined names, the remaining 170 names were carefully checked with their type specimens and other related specimens. Having studies of more than 12,000 specimens and 90 percent type specimens of the genus in Europe, US, and Asia herbaria, this study concluded that all the 170 names must be combined under 29 species. Four new species were found, tentatively named Microlepia ravenii S.-J. Moore, M. ashtonii S.-J. Moore and J.-C. Wang, M. kerrii S. J. Moore and J.-C. Wang, and M. thailandensis S.-J. Moore and J.-C. Wang. The history, morphology, and phytogeograpy of the genus are described in detail and discussed in this study.
