The purpose of this study was to construct and develop Transformative Learning Scale for Backpackers (TLSB). There were four phases of this study. First phase was to develop a preliminary scale based on literature review and related scales. In the second phase, exploratory factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha were utilized to examine the factor validity and reliability. The third phase consisted of comfirmatory factor analysis and criterion related validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, composite reliability, and average variance extracted were also included. The final phase was the examination of the relationships among motivations, transformative learning experiences, and personal development. The results were as follows:
    1. The TLSB included 14 questions under 4 factors which were” behavioral”, “psychological”, “convictional”, and “social perception”. In addition, it showed the scale has good reliability and validity.
    2. Backpackers’ transformative learning experience was affected by “gender”, “nationality”, “education level”, and “the backpacker experience to other continents”.
    3. Motivation was an important factor to affect backpackers’ transformative learning experiences and personal development.
    4. There was a positive relation between backpackers’ transformative learning experiences and personal development.
The reliability and validity of the TLSB has be confirmed and can be used for further investigation.
