本研究主要探討不同性別、家庭社經地位的國小獨生子女與非獨生子女之分離-個體化與其生活型態、社會興趣之關係。而主要研究目的在於：一、瞭解國小獨生子女與非獨生子女其人口背景在分離-個體化、生活型態及社會興趣方面的發展情形。二、探討國小獨生子女與非獨生子女的分離-個體化、生活型態及社會興趣三者間的關係。三、根據研究結果，提出具體建議，以供教育行政單位、教師、家長或輔導人員及未來相關研究之參考。
本研究以台北縣市國小五、六年級學生為研究對象，以「分離-個體化量表」、「生活型態量表」及「社會興趣量表」等研究工具進行問卷調查。共得有效樣本1204份。根據問卷調查所得到的資料，以二因子變異數分析、逐步迴歸分析等統計分析方法進行資料分析。研究結果如下：
一、在分離-個體化方面，男生的「親近焦慮」程度高於女生；而女生的「分離焦慮」程度高於男生。在「自我讚賞」和「抗拒控制」上則沒有性別上的差異。
二、在生活型態方面，男生在「支配型」的得分高於女生；而女生在「有益社會型」的得分高於男生，但在「獲取型」和「逃避型」上則沒有性別上的差異。
三、在生活型態方面，家庭社經地位和獨生與否之間有交互作用，低社經地位的非獨生子女在「獲取型」的得分高於中等社經地位的非獨生子女。而低社經地位之國小兒童中，在「獲取型」的得分上，非獨生子女的得分高於獨生子女。
四、在社會興趣方面，女生的社會興趣高於男生，非獨生子女的社會興趣高於獨生子女。
五、國小獨生子女與非獨生子女之分離-個體化能有效預測生活型態及社會興趣。
根據以上研究結果，本研究提出建議，作為教育、輔導及未來研究的參考。
