黃友棣出生於推翻君主專制的民國元年, 歷經北伐、抗戰、流亡海外 ,
到晚年定居高雄, 他的音樂歷程, 正如一部中國的新音樂發展史─從國樂
入門, 到完全吸收西洋古典浪漫, 以至開始民族性的反省, 再度出國研
究, 最後進入本土的關懷。他的一生與我國近代錯綜複雜的政經社會有許
多重疊之處; 他的音樂思想也與當代之人文社會有著不可分割的關係。論
文內容依背景、生平、作品分析、音樂思想四方面探討。背景方面: 從時
代背景、地理背景及於音樂文化背景; 由整個大環境漸漸縮小範圍至廣州
、香港、台灣之音樂背景, 以標出黃友棣在大環境中之定點。生平依四方
面: 第一幼年及求學時代, 第二動亂中的音樂使命, 第三赴義大利進修,
第四持續不歇的樂教工作。關於作品方面, 依其生命的歷程分為三個時
期, 分析方法依樂曲解說、樂曲分析兩大部份, 另兼及創作背景或創作動
機之說明。音樂思想依兩方面闡述: 一為黃友棣的音樂創作觀點, 一為音
樂教育理念。透過本研究, 將他一生所呈現的生活、創作、活動、言論、
思想有所瞭解, 必能對這個最複雜、最多樣化的時代之中國新音樂的蛻變
過程與人文面貌有進一步的瞭解與呈現。

Mr. Hwang Yau-tai who was born in 1912, during the period of
overthrowing autocrat ever experienced the Northern Expedi-
tion, war of resistance against aggression and overseas
sojourn. In his late year, he chose to settle in Kaohsiung.
His music, like a developing history of Chinese contemporary
music, starts from basic of traditional Chinese music, then
completely imbibes Classical and Romatic schools of western
music. Thus, he introspected himself, went abroad to study,
and finally he came back to concern his own country. His
life, overlapped modern Chinese politics and economics; His
music, can not separate from modern society. I divided my essay
into four respects illustrating Mr. Hwang's background, life,
ideology and analysing his works. According to this study to
understand his life, works, act- ivity, thesis and ideology.
Hope it can present the process and human history of
contemprary Chiese music in this com- plicated and changeable
age.
