本論文研究目的在於探討台灣閩南語變調與口語韻律之間的關係,以及變調規律在口語語流中的韻律表現,期望從口語韻律的角度來研究台灣閩南語的變調現象。
研究語料是一則10分36秒的自發性口語對話,為陌生人對談,採用平常自然的談話方式進行。兩位發音人分別為40歲及52歲的女姓,皆以台灣閩南語為母語。研究結果顯示:(一)變調分界與韻律分界的對應比例達四分之三,顯示台灣閩南語口語韻律結構與語法結構有相當程度的一致性。(二)變調分界處不一定出現停頓、拖長等現象,變調組末尾音節甚至於傾向縮短時長;凡是變調組末端音節拖長或是之後接有停頓時,其變調分界一定對應韻律分界。換言之,只有變調組邊界等同韻律單位邊界,才會出現停頓以及邊界前延長效應。(三)當韻律單位末尾為變調音節時,亦即韻律與變調分界不對應時,邊界前音節延長效應更加明顯。顯示說話者在大腦信息擷取不順時,傾向加強言談中斷處的韻律特徵,以使聽者易於辨別所接收的是否為完整之言談信息。(四)變調與韻律分界對應的位置也是語碼轉換的位置之處,可見當語法結構與韻律結構一致時,容易幫助語碼轉換。
變調規律主要是配合語法結構來運作,然而變調語音的呈現卻是在口語的環境之中,台灣閩南語的變調現象可以說是台灣閩南語使用者在綜合語法線索與韻律線索之後的口語言談表現。
