In emerging market, conglomerate is a common form of organization. It grows fast and has many subsidiary companies which located in Taiwan and even overseas. Each subsidiary company has different operating model and business nature, so it is critical for conglomerate to manage its resources. This indicates people who master the conglomerate’s future development and they are so called the top management team.
The concept of top management team comes from the Upper Echelons theory of Hambrick and Mason(1984). The purpose of top management team is to make and execute strategies which will determine the enterprise’s direction of development. The theory also point out that the achievements of enterprise are the reflection of top management team’s decision. The finding shows that the importance of top management team in an organization and attracts more scholars to do research aimed at top management team.
Most of the past researches focus on the analysis between top management team and single enterprise. The current research emphasize conglomerate and illustrate who are the core members that have decision making ability and can actually make great impact to the enterprise. This research uses database and annual report data to gather relevant background information of top management team. First we build an objective criteria and then try to find out the conglomerate’s key persons and analyze whether there are some relationships between the composing characteristics of core members and conglomerate or not.
