This study examined the relationships between background factors, e-cigarette media exposure, literacy, attitudes, and e-cigarette use behavior and intentions among junior high school students. A survey was conducted using self-administered questionnaires among seventh-grade students in New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, and Yilan City, yielding 1951 valid responses. The findings were as follows:
    1. Overall, 42 students (2.2%) reported having used e-cigarettes.
    2. Bivariate analysis results showed that male students, those with lower academic performance, students from lower and middle-low-income families, those with higher e-cigarette media exposure, lower attitudinal media literacy regarding e-cigarettes, higher perceived effects of e-cigarette advertising, and higher outcome expectations from e-cigarettes had a higher rate of e-cigarette use.
    3. Multiple logistic regression analysis results indicated that students with lower attitudinal media literacy regarding e-cigarettes and higher perceived effects of e-cigarette advertising were more likely to have used e-cigarettes.
    4. Multiple regression analysis results showed that students with lower e-health literacy and higher perceived effects of e-cigarette advertising had a greater intention to use e-cigarettes within the next year.
It is recommended that the government enforce bans on e-cigarettes marketing. Schools should strengthen e-cigarette media literacy education to reduce the harm of e-cigarettes to children and adolescents.
