論文名稱：從威廉莫里斯的壁紙系列論其社會改革理想

摘要內容：
威廉．莫里斯(William Morris,1834-1896)是十九世紀英國維多利亞時期的一位在文學、政治、設計上具有重要影響力的商人，他是一位典型的中產階級，短短的一生卻在許多領域留下痕跡。在他的生前論述著作中，載明了他企圖以藝術為手段進行改革社會的理想。
本論文以藝術社會學研究法為主，試圖從當時社會狀況與其藝術之間的關係這個角度切入，探討莫里斯如何從一位重要的設計家和詩人變成一位社會主義者與社會改革家。
欲明瞭莫里斯「壁紙系列」作品的創作動機及其自然主義題材在壁紙作品中所具有的時代意義，先要對莫里斯所身處的時代背景有所瞭解，因此在第一章首先介紹莫里斯壁紙系列的風格演變，並論及其生平、求學與早期奠定其藝術思想的背景。在第二章與第三章則進一步討論維多利亞時期的藝術現象與工業革命對英國社會和設計藝術所造成的影響。由於這些影響促使莫里斯以藝術為其社會改革的理想之相關探討，則在第四章有進一步的分析與介紹。
最後在結論部份，則就莫里斯以藝術改革社會之理念與其實際上的實踐兩者之落差，作一批評與總結。
