This study aimed to explore the effect of family strength on the career calling development. The study invited three young adults who had the career calling experience and considered the family had the positive effect on their career development as research participants. To answer the three reaserch question: 1. What is the process of career calling development of the early adulthood? 2.What is the content of the family strength of the early adulthood? 3. What is the effect of the family strength on the career calling development of the early adulthood? Narrative research method was applied to collect participants’ stories and analyzed them by "holistic-content", "categorical-content", and" holistic-form"approach.
The results of the study were as follows. First, the process of calling was: (1) the talent and enthusiasm shown in childhood; (2) the family’s familiarity with the field would contribute to the formation of the calling; (3) the educational system could be the supports or obstacles of calling development; (4) the core of calling was similar, and the appearance of calling was different. Second, the content of family strength was: (1) the enthusiasm and talent derived from the parental inheritance; (2) the family could provide resources and opportunities; (3) the family gave positive feedback when they were in career-exploration; (4) felt the value of life in the experience of being loved; (5) taught and experienced the complexity of the real world; (6) demonstrated the positive work/life attitude. Third, the effect of family strength was: (1) good experience in childhood; (2) conflict with family promoted self-understanding; (3) family would be moved by their calling, and gave more supports back.
At the end of the study, based on the research results, the researchers proposed some recommendations for practitioners and provided suggestions for future research.
