This study aims to investigate the career resilience of gay men in Taiwan during emerging adulthood, focusing on their experiences of career difficulties and the processes through which they demonstrate resilience. Adopting a narrative research approach, this study conducted in-depth interviews with four gay male participants with an average age of 28. It employed "categorical-content" and "holistic-form" analyses to explore the nature of career difficulties faced by gay men during this life stage and the development of their career resilience. The findings indicate that gay men during emerging adulthood face three primary types of career challenges: (1) Task-related challenges associated with life stages, particularly in areas such as love, intimacy, and workplace experiences, which are further complicated by their gay identity within specific contexts; (2) Identity-related difficulties, as these situations often bring self-identity struggles; and (3) Career difficulties shaped by societal structures, such as pressures and constraints stemming from traditional values. While these challenges create significant difficulties, they also provide opportunities for resilience to emerge. The development of career resilience, as revealed through a holistic examination, unfolds in three stages: (1) Initial encounter with career difficulties, where the onset of challenges is shaped by the coming-out experience, significant relationships, or contextual factors; (2) Emergence of resilience, which highlights the forms of resilience exhibited, including internal stabilization, a clearer sense of personal values, stable community support resembling collective resilience, and resilience in forging new paths; and (3) Continuation of resilience, where the resilience developed continues to empower and sustain the individual over time.Building on these findings, this study provides a comprehensive discussion on the career difficulties and resilience of gay men in Taiwan during emerging adulthood. It also presents recommendations for academic research, counseling practices, workplace environments, and the gay community.
