The purposes of this study were to compare the difference in physical activity (PA) and balance between the elderly with and without regular playing tennis. There were 40 regular male tennis elderly players (tennis group) and 40 non-regular exercise male elderly (control group) were recruited as the subjects, the average age of total 80 subjects was 65.1 ± 3.5 years old. The regular tennis players had been playing tennis for at least 3 years, and at least 3 days per week. All the subjects were asked to wear the RT3 Tri-axial (RT3) on two separate days (weekday and weekend) for the PA measurement. In addition, the subjects were performed the Fullerton Advanced Balance scale (FAB scale) to determine the balance ability. All the collected data were analyzed by description statistics, t-test, and Pearson Correlation test, and the result as followed. The PA of the tennis group (2277.3± 549.8kcal/day) was significantly higher than that of control group (2073.1 ± 522.3kcal/day) (p<.05);the balance of tennis group was significantly better than that of control group (p<.05).
The research result indicated that the male elderly who had engaged in regular tennis have more daily Physical Activity and better balance.
