The purpose of this study is to explore the professional development experiences of adventure therapy practitioners including major themes and trajectories within their professional development. Four experienced professionals with 6 to 16 years of experience in adventure therapy were invited to participate in semi-structured interviews. These interviews formed the narrative data for research analysis, which were then analyzed using the holistic-content approach of nar-rative research methodology.
The findings revealed seven major themes in the professional development of adventure therapy practitioners: unique attachment with nature, embodying adventurous beliefs in life, re-fining the tools of the adventure therapy profession, investing in experiential guidance for trans-formative change and healing, pioneer of innate freedom, the profound impact of meaningful relationships, and blessing from the adventure therapy profession. The professional develop-ment trajectory of adventure therapy practitioners was delineated into five stages across three dimensions: (1) Seeding exploration - encountering adventure therapy, (2) Sprout emergence - blending interdisciplinary boundaries, (3) Rooted thriving - experimenting with integrated ad-venture therapy, (4) Steadfast practice - creatively integrating own maps of practice, and (5) Blossoming flourish - flourishing professional influence. Three dimensions including establish-ing foundation, applied integration and diversified expansion. The professional development journey of adventure therapy practitioners resembles the interdisciplinary wampee, integrating outdoor adventure and psychological expertise across interdisciplinary domains, and interacting with societal hierarchical systems and professional community environments. Finally, based on the research findings, recommendations were proposed for the professional development of adventure therapy, as well as for future research focuses.
