  • 「巴黎畫派」(École de Paris)的代表畫家之一,俄裔法國畫家夏伊.蘇丁(Chaim Soutine, 1893-1943),本身具猶太血統,在移民法國後,以其個人獨特的藝術語彙開創成功的藝術地位,其繪畫雖受法國傳統繪畫影響,但其繪畫發展始終具有始終如一的特質,對現代藝術,尤其是抽象表現主義畫家具有啟發性。
    蘇丁執著於生活、真實、不全則無的藝術觀,其創作與生活乃是緊密相連的共同體,繪畫具有高度感動人的力量。蘇丁的繪畫看似混亂、複雜,然實傳達了更為深刻的訊息;蘇丁獨特的藝術語彙、美學觀與作品背後所蘊藏的內涵是值得深究之處。
    文中第一章從蘇丁繪畫風格的醞釀與形成著手,探究其成長背景與猶太文化的教養,瞭解其藝術啟蒙與藝術發展概況,剖析其人格特質與繪畫發展的關係。第二章則進入蘇丁的繪畫世界,分別就其與「巴黎畫派」、表現主義、法國繪畫傳統的關係作討論,釐清其繪畫風格。第三章則對蘇丁畫作進行分析與詮釋,首先論述其創作過程始終與自然有密切的關係,接著由蘇丁畫作的三種題材類型一一剖析,闡述蘇丁繪畫表現的特質。可發現塞荷(Céret)系列風景畫具有具象/抽象;卡涅(Cagnes)系列風景畫具有嚴肅/滑稽、靜物系列畫具有生/死相互矛盾的特點,肖像畫則顯露悲憫與移情。第四章綜合以上章節之探討,對蘇丁的藝術作一全面性的解讀,探討其藝術美學特質,論述蘇丁藝術實受猶太文化的影響,在認同與違抗間擺盪,畫作具有狂熱與不安、悲憫與救贖的特質,並探討蘇丁藝術之評價與影響。
    本文研究之主要目的在於深入瞭解蘇丁繪畫創作之形成與發展、對既有之研究之見解作歷史回顧,並加以辯證,探討蘇丁繪畫之深刻意涵,並結合藝術史之論述與文化比較研究的角度,探究蘇丁繪畫表現風格之根源,深入剖析其獨特的美學表現與藝術特質,釐清他與當時藝術發展的關聯性,論證他對近代藝術的啟發性與重要性,對他的藝術表現予以詮釋與定位。
