The objective of this study was to investigste the mobile technology behavior for parent and preschool children, cognitions and attitudes, accessibility and parent-child interaction. We expected that the study would make guidelines and suggestions, and help parent rebuild the style of parent-child interaction. This questionnaire survey got from the Taipei area in Taiwan, and the target parent (n=325) came from infant day care center and kindergarden.
The results indicated that 65% parent was heavy mobile technology user, and 57.2% preschool children have used mobile technology. Lots of them used 1 to 30 minutes, and mostly was watching videos, and over 72% family had more than 3 mobile technology products. About parent- child interaction, the main sedentary behavior was watching TV, and the main physical activity was outdoor activities. Based on the analysis, the predictive factors of the screen time that the preschool children spend is correlated with the behavior for parent and mobile technology accessibility (R2=.197). And the other predictive factors of total times for sedentary behavior was the screen time for parent and preschool children (R2=.069).
The study results suggest that parent should: (1) Be the role model, minimize screen time, and set screen-off zone. (2) Reduce sedentary behavior. (3) Get more physical activity. (4) Be mindful and co-use while building habits of mobile technology using.
