The purpose of the study was to examine effects of yellow and white colors on reaction time (RT). The parameters of RT included the central information processing speed (premotor time, PMT) and the peripheral executing speed (motor time, MOT). Also, the event related potentials (ERP) including FSP, SN, N2b and P300, were compared between the two colors. Twenty-four male college students, from 20 to 24 years old, served as subjects who were randomly assigned to yellow and white color groups with each group twelve people. The stimulus was a round graphics in computer monitor with black background. When a round graphics with an open mouth showed (the chance was 1/5) the subject should depress button. Otherwise, a round graphics without any open mouth (the chance was 4/5) showed, no response was required. Both graphics appeared randomly. The round graphics with yellow color was used for yellow group and that with white color was used for white group. The EMG and EEG were employed to collect (or calculate) RT, PMT, MOT, FSP, SN, N2b and P300. The data indicate that the reaction time (RT), the central information processing speed (PMT), the peripheral executing speed (MOT), the latencies of FSP, SN and N2b are not different between yellow and white colors. However, that of P300 for white color is faster than that of yellow.
