This study aims to investigate the development status and trends of mobile and ubiquitous learning. In addition, this study analyzes 149 research articles related to mobile and ubiquitous learning selected from Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) that are published in five education and educational research journals between 2008 and 2012. This study utilizes quantitative analysis to examine five aspects, including topics, methods, participants, contents, and variables, of recent research results. This study also integrates quantitative analysis to further investigate teaching topics in related research articles. Three primary conclusions are made. (1) Among the research results published between 2008 and 2012, the majority of the current research covers education and focuses on inquiry-based learning as well as adaptive learning. On the other hand, the analysis on research variable shows that affection domain is the main focus, indicating that more researchers inspect the learners' attitude and acceptance toward educational materials.
    (2) The study about research achievement suggests that inquiry-based learning and problem-solving learning strategies have gradually gained more attention. The interactive teaching materials, design of the teaching-learning interface, and cross-cultural teaching materials are also the main topics of current research projects. As the learner-centered concept gradually gains more and more attention, how integrating proper teaching strategies and tools increases students' motivation and attitude toward learning will be the primary issues when studying mobile and ubiquitous learning. In conclusion, this study will help the succeeding researchers better understand the current situation as well as the main trend of mobile and ubiquitous learning-related studies.
